  • The 10 biggest lies in audio

An interesting read. He identifies and debunks 10 lies of high-end audio:

    (1) The cable lie

    (2) The vacuum-tube lie

    (3) The anti-digital lie

    (4) The listening test lie

    And more...

I have a friend who spent $300.00 on a 3ft long chunk of power cord for his amp. $100.00 or so for patch cords. Insane.

He also had a electrician install a electrical line from his fuse panel to his stereo.

Sometimes I wonder if he is listening to the equipment rather than the music.

Most of that list is good. On the other hand: (1) 12 gauge wiring might be good for speakers in many situations; and (2) some cheap digital equipment is succeptible to jitter.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Don't see what that has to do with being full of it.
