Correct me if I am wrong, but is english not a Germanic based language, at least from a phonetic root perspective? The sames as spannish, french and italian are latin based languages

My father was fluent in 5 european languages. I'm not even fluent in English. My father went to public school in Switzerland, just outside of Zurich. I went to public school in New Jersey, just outside of hell.

My father learned 5 languages. I learned how to survive.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

What BS. English is my third language, and I daresay that my spelling is good and my grammar at least decent. If schools can't teach children to spell properly, then it's the schools (teachers) that the problem probably comes from.

Yes, lets never change things to make it easier. English has been the same for 4,400 years. Why start changing now?

In truth, I agree with you to a point, I just think its a silly thing for you to take offense to. I think it'd be stupid to change, but I have no problem with those who'd like it changed, and no problem should they succeed (adaptation is a good thing ).

And who exactly are these specific advocates, and how do they relate/differ from other advocates?

                      English

What a feat it would be to change it.

I am currently learning Mandarin, my 2nd langauage, after this, maybe Tamil.

No, his older brother and sister are still alive more than 10 years after his passing. He smoked and drank himself to death. Hiding in a bottle from his demons, of which he had plenty. I suppose one thing my time in school in NJ and in the army did was to teach me the value of life and not to be like dear old dad, the SOB.

Funny story he told once...he used to whip us pretty good with a belt or yardstick... until he broke it on me. So when I grew up I asked him if his father beat him, he answered 'he sure as hell did.' So I asked if his father's father beat his father, to which he replied 'god I hope so'.

                        I just love that story.

Plenty of people had it alot worse, and it got me ready for school and the army.

While there are many languages that are significantly more complex than English, there are very few that make as little sense.

It's also funny to see Americans coming out against any change in the spelling of English words, given that our dialect has already adopted many spelling changes intended to simplify things. I guess ya'll should go back to spelling "color" with a "u"...

It's backward, don't change the spelling, change the pronounciation.

The point may have been that he thought the reason the sentence was perfectly grammatical was because Asher was spending a lot of time, namely 5 minutes, just to avoid a rather painful irony, such as starting a sentence with "Because"

A similar irony might involve a sentence with no verb, such as : "Like your grammar, for instance."
