The Yanks have one of the best armies in the world now- for fighting a war.
They have one of the worst armies in the world for keeping a peace.
The US army, unlike other NATO nations only understands war, this is not a fault within the US armed forces, it is a fault of US Politicians that has created this attitude since Vietnam.
One day the US politicians will finally realise that professional soldiers should be allowed to conduct all aspects of a campaign- because that's their job- not many officers moonlight as politicians in any NATO army, I'd be quite shocked if Blair suddenly announced that he'd been a British Army officer for 15 years, wouldn't you?
The two jobs don't tally, the sooner politicans understand this the better. You can be one or the other, not both.

The "Hey, that's what war is like"-horde can stuff it.

You're a douche. Your claim flies in the face of my actual experience in two US Army peace keeping missions including Iraq. Anyone guilty is promptly arrested and often faces far greater penalities then in 90% of the other western nations. It is condiered justice that by the military that soldiers should should face stiffer penalities since they are entrusted with greater responsibilities by the state. As a former soldier I agree.
I'd say the US military's record is better then 90% of the countries out there and far better when you consider that the guilty are actually arrested and punished with lengthy jail terms.
You can't fault him for thinking that. After all, our politicians and military keep trotting out that pony everytime there's an incident.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

There are some 130.000 soldiers in Iraq - most of them men. What is the probability that some of those will commit rape ? Pretty high.
Punish them according to the law and go on.

I wonder, what does the kill 'em all brigade lot make of this? I mean, unless you're a hardcore feminist, murder is still worse than rape - and you see people on this forum suggesting mass murder in order to win. So what's wrong with a little R & R for the troops?
