And I do know social smokers, or smokers who only smoke when they drink, so yeah, I think you are generalizing a great deal.
I know of people who claim that smoking is harder to quit then Heroin.

They obviously weren't Heroine addicts... While both are addictions, the physical addition to heroine is far worse than nicotine... and the withdrawal symptons are FAR FAR FAR worse.

      • They were Heroin addicts... shows what you know.

(but honestly, it is sort of rediculous to see everyone in a bar go outside once an hour..)

Having seen people's withdrawal symptoms to both, I have to question the seriousness of their comments. Watching somebody go through heroin addiction is just plain brutal.

Ban smoking now! It really is just plain stupid.
If you were too dumb or weak to stop smoking despite all the warnings of cancer and lung disease 20 years ago, why would a ban stop you?

For my part I need no ban to know that smoking is stupid.

People need to take responsibility for themselves and their actions. You have no one to blame for the stint in your heart but yourself, sorry.

there is no such thing as a no smoking bar.

We are forced not to have any fun, while all the smokers can have all the fun they want.

              • But if there was really such a high demand for a non-smoking bar, wouldn't someone have opened one up so they could become rich?

                • It's no surprise that a fella named 'embalmer' is pro smoking.

                  • Sorry to burst your bubble - haven't smoked in thirty-odd years of life and I hope I never do.

It almost seems that statement says more about you then it does about me.

Btw, you don't have to be a smoker to be pro smoking, you could just be, say, an embalmer who profits from it.

Do all Phillip Morris executives smoke?

                      • The point was made (I assume he was serious) that there was no non-smoking bars where non-smokers could go to have fun - my question was directed to that statement alone.

Does a person automatically have to be in favor (or, as you suggest, one who profits) of any activity they think others should be allowed to engage in if they so choose? Or can't they simply be in favor of the right to choose?

                        • Not when they are choosing to kill other people as the surgeon general says. You can't choose life or death for another person without being either a judge or a murderer.

                          Hmm, funny combo.

                          • [q=Lancer]Not when they are choosing to kill other people as the surgeon general says. [/q]

Does this apply to gas guzzling cars as well?

[q=Dis]there is no such thing as a no smoking bar.

And when you ban smoking in bars then you'll have all the fun and the smokers can't have any fun.

And as said, if there was demand for non-smoking bar, you would have had one.

I saw an interview with a former heroin addict who said that it was harder for her to quick smoking than it was for her to quit heroin.

A ban would make them illegal and therefore not anywhere as easy to obtain.

Addicted people don't need a ban to know its stupid eithier. There is a reason for the word "addicted"

I believe that if you had read the thread then you would know that I do take responsibility for my actions and have noone to blame but myself. The $30K that my insurance company forked out because of my stupidity unfortunately means that everone shares a bit of the financial burden with me. That's the kind of thing that I have come to realize should not be happening.
