  • How does one buy Microsoft Licenses?

Yes, I need to buy some, exactly how do I do it? When I go to MS's site, it all seems quite confusing.

I have the software, (MS Office), but I need to install it to about 15 computers.

Anyone have any experience with this?

You have to talk to some business sales person.

When you buy the boxed products in stores, you're actually buying the license, not the ownership of the software. So you could also just buy 15 copies?

                Um

is I presume the link you went to?

You probably want to go to

and select Open Licensing as your choice.

Assuming you want only 15 computers, and are looking at a one-time payment (not an annual payment), and < 250 computers, then that's what you want.

Go down to "Contact a Volume Licensing reseller" and then choose worldwide

I forget where you are atm ... Singapore still, or NZ, or ??

is supposed to be Singapore, though i'm a bit confused.

You might be more easily able to find out by going to a major corporate computer needs retailer in the area - that's ultimately what you're looking at. Volume licensing on a small scale is always done through resellers (newegg sells them in the US. among many others)

More accurately, Newegg sells Windows licenses, apparently not MS Office licenses. I guess "System Builders" only get Windows licenses and not office ...

You can look it up on pricewatch and buy the licenses without the software. It's about $50 cheaper than with a disk . According to the site selling them, certain harddisks come with Windows already on them, but are then reformated with another OS, leaving them with a license they can sell.

Those are not legal, Windows licenses are not transferrable.

You might as well pirate it if you're going to go that route.

It may depend on the country you are in. In the U.S., it's legal to sell licenses, despite what the manufacturer might say.

That makes no sense, because you say you accept the terms of the license, which includes a clause about being non-transferrable.

Do you have a link to back up your claims that we can safely ignore the restrictions stipulated in licenses?
