Actually, only Stalin knew it was coming, but still refused to prepare. The troops on the frontier didn't know a thing.

Prediction: this thread will turn into a combat between Serb and USians about whose share in beating the Wehrmacht was bigger, one arguiing with his people's bloodletting, the other side with the immense amount of lend-lease-shipment.

my theory is that

Nazi Germany would've ran out of men for the large-scale occupation necessary to keep the roads functional and eastern front working around 1944, thus losing even if they would've captured Moscow. For it's global (after December 1941) war effort, it was vital to achieve a cease fire with SU, creating new borders near the Urals. Then they could've concentrated their forces on Mid-East, UK, North Africa or even India while keeping the Atlantic wall fortified in case of US invasion. With Stalin around, this cease fire was an unrealistic dream.
