It seems to me that the two parties have eached lined-up on the wrong side of this issue.
Pro-business laissez-faire Republicans should be backing illegal immigrantion. Fewer restrictions on immigration and immigrants would shrink the size of government, give more flexibility to the free enterprise system, drive down labor costs and increase profits.
Pro-labor pro-regulation Democrats should be opposing illegal immigration. Illegals are bought in by corporate employers the circumvent minumum wages set out in statutes and in union contracts. The result is the dreaded "race to the bottom." Union jobs are lost to competitors using illegals and the standard of living for union workers is dragged downwards.
Regardless of the rights and wrongs of illegal immigration, why is each side seeming to work against its own self interest??
