  • Do those Trade Federation guys really have a French accent in original SW Ep I-III?

As you may know in German tv and cinema you get most of the time not the original/English language versions of movies, but those with German "dubbed" dialogues. On dvd you can often choose the original language too, but I have seen SW I-III in cinema and there those evil trade federation leaders always spoke German with a strong French accent

    So is SW anti-French?

Maybe Vader had a German accent in the first SW?

I think they tried to make up original accents but failed to come up with enough of an original sound to avoid offending everybody.

They were going to make it Yiddish, but then decided that would be too obvious.

Wasn't Watto supposed to sound vaguely like this?

There was nothing vague about Watto being Yiddish. In the 2nd movie, just in case you didn't get it the first time around, they added Hasidic clothes. (I'm not kidding).

I've seen both the first and second movie (along with all the others as well) many, many times, and while I do kind of notice the stereotyping, I just can't bring myself to be bothered by it.

I wasn't bothered by it, but I thought the ethnic stereotyping in the prequels was hilariously blatant.

I thought it was French, until someone said "It's Chinese!". That it appears to be French in German makes me think it was suppose ot be French.

In case you couldn't get from the accent it was Chinese, they had the Trade Fed dudes in Mandarin robes.

No, but if you notice all the crew members in the Imperial Stardestroyers are wearing Nazi uniforms. And Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) played a lot of evil German characters.

Actually I read that the Empire costumes were based off of Imperial Japanese motifs?
