The remainder goes to charity. My future children should be able to fend for themselves, after 18 years of surviving in my Spartan household.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Those aren't disjoint sets. What about houses?

I'll help set my kids up in life, but they won't get anything from me dying, not that I'm going to die.
There is a difference between personal items and wealth. Inheritance is one of the biggest problems in society today.

I also would (if I was wealthy) rather give me wealth to charity than to my kids.

House gets sold and goes to charity.

Indeed, there's already too many of them in the world - you're a shining example of that.

              But then there's adoption.

Adoption is only environental if you adopt other Western children. If you bring children from the 3rd world, it's almost as bad as having your own.

I know! I know! It's because an American -- even one born overseas -- uses a lot more energy and other resources than does his third-world counterpart.

                    Right??

That's it! If my next kid is a girl, her name will be Charity. Thanks Che. When do I get the keys?

And if you had an accident while your children are minors?

What if one of your children is... less than successful with his or her choices. You wouldn't want to set up trusts or education funds for grandchildren?

Ever heard that charity starts at home?

if people (like myself) are giving away charity, then my grandkids with a poor parent will be assisted by that...

and why should I enable my child to make more poor choices?

if my children are minors, then of course my wealth should support them...
