For travel in certain major US & Canadian cities. www.southwest.com
For travel to the Pacific Northwest www.alaskaair.com
I never really found a deal on orbitz and I was put off by the membership fee but some people sware by it so... www.orbitz.com
Then you have the standbies which allow you to establish a rough estimate: www.expedia.com and www.travelocity.com
Lastly a check of google brings up these promising sites which I've never used:

www.kayak.com is good for comparing the various airlines and agencies, particularly for travel within North America. Note that Southwest isn't listed on this site, but pretty much all the other airlines and the discount sites (cheaptickes, travelocity, etc.) are.Comment

cheapflights.com is the 1st place I check (you don't buy the tickets there, it sends you to another site). That usually sends me to cheaptickets.com, but occassionally travelocity has the best fares. Then I check the various airlines to see if they have any specials.
