Jimmy Carter was a sub guy in the navy, that's why there's a submarine named after him.

            We need another USS Yorktown.

that should be the new name.

and yes I know it was a CG. It used to be at my naval base in Pascagoula. But a quick wiki hit shows it has been decomissioned. They should have never given the name to a CG anyways.

Famous carrier names that participated in WW2, should continue to be carrier names. As I fully expect there to be another USS Enterprise in the future as well.

Saratoga, Midway, Coral Sea, Constellation, Ranger, Ticonderoga, Intrepid, America, Lexington, Yorktown are all "homeless" carrier names at the moment.

And, of course we're going to have to replace the Enterprise and Kitty Hawk soon. All are cool names.

Is there a 'Hornet'? Always liked that name. How about 'Lexington', got another of those? Heroic history...

And why not go to state names? Those were reserved for battleships, but we have none at the moment. And are unlikly to build any.

My first choice would be USS Nevada. Perhaps the only battleship to get underway in the attack of pearl harbour. It didn't make it very far, but at least it got underway. . But it did survive the attack on pearl harbour, but wasn't used after that. In fact, wiki says it was used as a target. . It seems the military is more than willing to use my state for target practice.

The current convention has subs being named after states. (Virginia-class SSNs)

Incidently, we can also throw in the Congress or President for carrier names.

that's right. I forgot about the subs. It's kind of hard to treat them like real ships.

How many of the founding fathers currently have a ship named after them? I think that Benjamin Frankilin, Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Payne, Samuel Adams, John Adams, Patrick Henry, John Hancock, and others would be great names for carriers.

We should have a boomer named Shiva in honor of Oppenheimer's famous quote.
