sometimes I think I'm going to die soon. I figure my life is going so good, something bad is bound to happen. So I was thinking maybe I should make a will. So fill me in please. I know nothing about these.

How do I do one? Do I need SSN's of my beneificiaries? I don't even know my mother's SSN. I'd have to get all that crap. Or would a name and address be sufficient? What other information do I need to go in with?

Although I wonder if one is necessary if all my **** is going to my mother anyways. But I'm probably going to leave some for charities, and maybe a couple of my cousins.

And no, I'm not leaving any money to any of you. . I don't need to be sent Apolyton merchandise that will mysteriously kill me.

There are some "do-it-yourself" software kits for making wills that you then get notarized to make them "official", but I personally don't trust them.

If you want to do it right, find a lawyer in your area that specializes in wills. They will meet with you to gather the appropriate information and can tell you exactly what you will need to bring with you. Your first meeting will be to go over your various bequests and such (living will, power of attorney, etc.). Your second meeting will be to review and sign the final documents.

From my recollection (it's been two years since ours was drawn up) a SSN for a beneficiary is recommended, but not absolutely necessary.

I used a do-it-yourself software kit, because it's exceedingly unlikely that my beneficiaries would get into a dispute -- my brother would have to develop multiple personality disorder.

In most jurisdictions a will will be valid if its in writing and witnessed by two persons that are not beneficiaries or spouses of beneficiaries. At a minimum it should appoint an executor (the person appointed to carry out your wishes --they can be and usually are a beneficiary) and then direct where your estate would go. A will CAN be as simple as two to three sentences and still be valid and binding.

You should check the rules in your jurisdiction though. If your plan is to give everything to your closest relatives, that is likely what would happen if you had NO will--

Oh last point-- Make sure a few people know you have a will and where it is kept. It is not unknown ( particularly with smaller estates) for all of the estate to be distributed out ( often without the "bother" of any court sanction) and then 6 months later someone is finally going through the deceased's boxes and discovers a will
