The summers are very nice here, but the winters are too mild.

I figured it was either going to be the 'Peg or Regina. Didn't think of Saskatoon. Somebody from North or South Dakota might still give him a run for his money...

Scary part is I have actually experienced those extremes. We get pretty close to those most years.

                -49 is frigging cold, though.

Tell me about it. Two years ago we had that, and my timer for plugging in the car failed because it was too cold. I tried starting it and it just turned over once and died.

                      Camden, AR:
                      * The highest recorded temperature was 115°F in 1936.

                      * The lowest recorded temperature was -7°F in 1951.

It's been in the 110s a few times in the past few years but IIRC the most recent thing near a record low was +9F once a few years ago.

                      in C:
                      115F = 46C
                      -7F = -21C
                      (swing: 122F or 67C)

I dunno about records but in 15 years near Augusta GA the coldest it got was 17°F, the hottest ~105°F. Sunday it was 101°, not a record for 11 June. It was a cool 91° Monday, so I got on the roof and cleaned gutters in anticipation of big rain that hit last night.

From 1951 through 1998 the hottest was 108°, the coldest -1°.

The coldest in my experience was -14°F at Virginia Tech. The morons didn't cancel classes, many frostbite cases. I wasn't going to walk 3 miles in that to my morning class. My car started and I was able to move the shifter, so I went. Hard to say how much wear the pistons took before the oil warmed up.

The hottest outdoor temp was something over 110° near TorC New Mexico. On the side of the road with a radiator leak. Fun, fun. Don't know for sure, no thermometer. It frequently got to around 106° in Carlsbad.

we tied for a record high temperature last year. It's been a long time since we had a record low.

                            Coldest day Jan. 13, 1963 8° F (-13° C)
                            Hottest day Tie: July 24, 1942 and July 19, 2005 117° F (47° C)

Well, everything is relative. The last few days most people here have been wearing shorts at work because it's just too damn hot to run around in jeans. At the same time, our Indian fellas are relieved that we have finally reached normal winter temperature

I was able to find this out about St. John's (Newfoundland):

Of all major cities of Canada, St John's is the cloudiest (only 1497 hours of sunshine a year), foggiest (124 days a year), windiest (24.3km/h average), snowiest (359cm), and wettest (1514mm). However, St. John's has the third mildest winter in comparison to other Canadian cities. Environment Canada. St. John's: Canada's Weather Champion. Atlantic Climate Centre - The Climate of Newfoundland. Retrieved on 2006-05-29.
Temperature wise, things are pretty stable all year round. Not too cold in the winter (maybe -10C, lowest), and not too hot in the summer (maybe 20C on a good day).

We get boatloads of precipitation though, so if its below 0 it will snow alot and if its above 0 it will rain alot. We also get very very strong winds and lots and lots of fog.

I'd say, temperature aside, weather here is one of the more extreme ones around.
