I can show you when Speedball was taken to trial?(shot on the way...whoops)
I also kinda think Osborn being put in charge of enforcing the Act gives rise to all kinds of questions of how just it is.
Osborn runs the Thunderbolts, and I fail to see how he is a "worse" person than Baron Zemo was. Not exactly earth-shattering **** there. (And Stark enforces it, as the new head of SHIELD)

Speedball wasn't taken to trial. He was on his way to testify before Congress. He was shot on the way there. Somehow I'm not sure if that qualifies as a trial.

Who pisses off Peter more? Osborn or Zemo?

I would throw in that there are several legal references to "cutting deals" throughout the series, obviously there is an expectation of a trial at some point.

As I said no trial. The deal seems to be essentially do as we say and we'll let you out of the Negative Zone. I've seen not even a passing mention of a trial even in Frontline. It's also curious that this "deal" absolves long litanies of crimes of villains as well (Morbius, Osborn, etc.) so I don't think this deal refers to any preparations for a trial.
Re point 2: You still haven't said how he puts the best face on the act.

612 people? THATS IT?!?! omg, more people died from a hurricane. Should we create a hurricane registration act? Weather: CIVIL WAR!
I find the plot idiotic.

The plot is quite realistic. We lost what, 3,000 people on 9-11 and we invaded two countries. You don't think we'd pass some kind of registration act if 612 children were killed?
****, there has been like 1 or 2 sexual assaults from MySpace (not even deaths) and there is already a slew of legislation trying to create more bans and restrictions on it.
The plot is excellent.

Har har. But there are implications(In Frontline and She-hulk at least) that there is at least an expectation of trials.

No more than it did with the "Old" Thunderbolts, I suppose. And Colorado specifically asked for the Thunderbolts to be "their" team in Regards to Iron Man's "Secure the Country" initiative.
Re point 2: You still haven't said how he puts the best face on the act.
Osborn isn't the face of the Act, Iron Man is. Spider-man, of course, is a massive douche for switching sides in a public manner.

I'm still waiting for even a small hint of an upcoming trial. I've read most of Frontline so far and seen nothing to support your point.

When the law is unjust and born of a kneejerk reaction, why should they obey it?
No more than it did with the "Old" Thunderbolts, I suppose.
The old T'bolts at least expressed the desire for redemption (minus the Moonstone exception of course ). Where's the desire to change in Bullseye, the new Venom, and Norman Osborn? We've already seen how easily the nanite control can be bypassed, so where is the sanity in making deals with such people?
Osborn isn't the face of the Act, Iron Man is.
Again, how much trust should a superhero have in the motives of people who make deals with his enemies to enforce the law? Look at the carnage Venom caused when the T'bolts came to recruit him. This reminds me of Operation: Zero Tolerance.

Punisher had a family, wife, kids. He is a wall of uncaring death because they were butchered in front of his eyes.
And Howard is a Marvel character. Of course he needs to register. Or so he thought.
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"

alright, can you prove that the whole plan is to hold them without trial?
When the law is unjust
How is it unjust?
and born of a kneejerk reaction,
Read "The road to Civil War" if you think it came out of nowhere
why should they obey it?
Because it's the law. God forbid the guys who try to fight lawbreakers obey the law themselves.

I'll guess we'll have to see what happens in the new T-Bolts series, huh?

I'm looking at the law itself, which is just.

Ok, I picked up a few new issues. I'm glad they are trying to make some lasting effects from this, but it looks like it'll just all be rolled back in a few months...
**spoiler**
As hinted to in Frontline this is all just an evil plot by Ironman to make money, and no doubt to take over SHIELD. Bleh... we'll have this initiative stuff for a bit, and then Stark's sinister plot will be revealed and everything will go back to how it was.
They started off so good too... The black & white world of comic books was upended with this Civil War series in which there is no clear right and wrong. There are good people and good arguments on both sides. They unravel all of that if they go with this Ironman plot thing. Grrr.
