  • Marvel Civil War thread (spoilers)

For those of you who don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about, Marvel Comics has a event going on this summer called "Civil War".

Essentially, a group of superheroes called the "New Warriors" have a reality TV show, and in the course of apprehending some bad guys they end up killing themselves and about 600 school children at a local Elementary school. As a result the Federal Government is pushing through a "Superhuman Registration act". basically saying that all superheroes have to de-mask and, well, register. (Part of the process makes them civil servants, essentially)

Some Superheroes, the ones with "Public" identities, think this is a good idea anyway. The ones with secret identities don't think so.

So far it's pretty damn good, much better than DC's "Infinite Crisis"...anyone else following it?

Well, as a fella on another board said...

Comparing the two is comparing Filet Mignion and Taco Hell. Not even in the same arena. Not only did Civil War grip me from the start...I only had to read Civil War #1...not All of ASM lead up. With Infinite Crap, if you didn't read the lead up, you wouldn't understand 90% of the **** floating around.
Which is what I agree with. Hell, Incredibles based off of one guy suing, CW is based off of a ****-up on a massive, 9/11 scale. The first issue is great. The Spider-man tie is great.

Any word on if SHIELD's anti-Super hero squad might survive the Civil War event in some form? Would make for an interesting villain group if it continues.

Seeing as Rogers curb-stomped them in about 2 minutes, I'd say they ain't much of a threat.

I say this without having read the issue yet. But the Malta group is one of my favorite villain groups.

So which issues are out now? I think I'll go pick them up.

How many issues will it run?

I've heard about it, but I haven't read any yet. I'd like to. Sounds like an awesome premise. Finally a big crossover event that doesn't involve aliens and different dimensions and gods with fancy gloves.

I can see no compelling reason why one should be compeled to give up one's rights save for the fear reason the government provides in the form of thier attack squad.

Sadly us non-super powered folks seem to give up our rights constantly.

"Rights"? What about the right for the average citizen to not worry about someone with super powers going crazy and start hurting folks? It's happened with "good guys" as well as bad.

CW#1 is out, and you can tell what the tie-ins are by the distinctive covers of the comics. You don't have to pick them all up, but I would at least recommend the Spider-man tie in.
