Not entirely true. The "Patroitic Chinese Catholic Church" (or some name like that) is very much legal and state-sponsored. However, it doesn't officially recognize the Pope's authority, although recently there have been some attempts at rapprochment (but again, the last tiem I kept track of this was a few months ago, so the progress may have backtracked again) and getting along so the Vatican doesn't officially oppose Chinese appointments.

Now, as to the actual topic: Strange bedfellows, eh?

Oh, and Ingrid, is that list available in English? Or is it just that the rest of the page won't load for me...?

The Patriotic National Catholic Church is not the Catholic Church.

It is a state Church, like the anglicans, and they have diferent point of views on issues like abortion, + they dont accept the pope´s authority.

If it was a bunch of Christian fundies then I'd say they just didn't like having their dogma challenged but the Chinese aren't Christians. So...

Maybe the PRC just doesn't want anyone's dogma challenged for fear their people will start examining the PRC's own revisions of history.

if Da Vinci Code was a really challenge I would respect it (and those do exist). However, the Da Vinci Code is crap on that regard, all it really shows is that most people don't know much, and are willing to beleive quite ludicrious consipiracies.

BTW Pearl Harbor I can understand since it is about fighting the hated Japanese but Titanic?

Further more Chinese theater has to be totally worthless. $13 million nation wide over the life of a film? ****, I think the losers make $13 million on opening day in the US. That's the crap films which everyone makes fun off. 1.3 billion people and $13 million is the second best ever? The Chinese must either hate films or they're all thieves.

The book was far better then the movie. The movie took the worst of the book and made it even worse.

Keep in mind that movie tickets in China cost much less than those in the US. The number of people seeing it may be greater.

There are 1.3 billion people but most of them are peasants. About 30% of 1.3b live in the cities. Then you need to consider only the theaters in the bigger cities along the coast (and also Beijing) would have access to thes, um, US blockbusters.

I know a lot of people who really believe it, most of stop doing so once they saw the Discovery Channel special...
