I saw a "documentary" on FX the other night about 666 in revelation and for the first time, I heard a rational explanation for the "mark of the beast". Applying greek numbers to the hebrew name for Nero will give us 666. Sounds like a code for criticising Nero and Rome without making it obvious to the a-holes you're mocking. Same thing with "The Whore of Babylon" references, not to a city that had already been sacked, but Rome was the new whore of Babylon.
