"The FAA's proposed change takes effect as of today, and we will begin the process of implementing our proposal," FAA Administrator Marion Blakey said in a statement Monday.
The FAA's proposal would preserve base salaries and premiums for living in high-cost areas, but new controllers would earn 30 percent less than what the existing work force earns.
That's nice... a bunch of people making peanuts trying to keep planes from smashing into each other. %30 less is a big slash. Will they care %30 less if planes get too close. Not me - no way - never going to fly again.

Let's face it, the money to make up for the elimination of the estate tax ($50 billion overe 10 years) has to come from somewhere. Why not from the Homeland defense budget of New York City and from the air traffic controllers who keep up safe?
