Certainly not. That's an expression I reserve solely for the career of Bette Midler.

Aren't you some sort of academic? Obviously that's a searing indictment of educational standards in its own right, but your current tactics leave me wondering what your doctoral thesis consisted of. I'm betting it went like this-

"Commentary on the philosophers of Classical Greece.

Socrates was a bummer, and his Mum had AIDS of the face.

      Love,

      Aggie."

Learn some sense of proportion, you posturing clown. When someone says something disparaging about politics, it's deeply uncool to repeatedly accuse them of promoting paedophilia.

While I'm loving your retort (about "Gay Plague"; insulting Aggie is too frequent an occurence to be funny), you should bear in mind that:

        A. We do not "suffer" from Aspergers for the most part. It causes problems because the majority of the world isn't like us, but it's a part of who we are, with strengths and weaknesses. If all the Aspies were "cured" tomorrow, civilization would collapse within a year due to the sudden absence of competent engineers. You normal folks would certainly have one helluva time getting rockets into space without our hopeless-nerd powers.

        B. Apolyton is a skewed sample. Based on examination of their representatives on 'poly, roughly fifty percent of ALL demographic groups are insane.

Is this an established fact, or is it just something you've made up?

There is no difference when you're talking to an aspergers sufferer.

Asperger's was pretty much unknown up until ten or so years ago, but I stand by my statement. We're VERY common in Engineering--that is a fact--and our aptitudes and (typically) love of mechanical phenomena make us pretty good at it. Ditto for mathematics. Roughly ten percent of us have savant abilities, IIRC. All the really driven math and science profs I've had--the eccentric-genius types--have set my, ah, "aspie-gaydar," so to speak, screaming. I'm very unusual, being more lit-oriented, but then I'm also a very mild case. I'm not saying we're "better" than normal people, but we're not total intellectual cripples either.

I thought this was about the people from the african country Randia, but that country doesnt exist, I think I confused it with Zambia or Gambia.

Horse****. While there may well be a higher proportion of Asperger's cases among scientists/engineers than among the general population, this proportion by no means approaches 50%, or even 20%...

why did aspergers afflicted have to shorten it to a childish sounding thing?

Yes but you said that if all Aspergers people disappeared, normal people would have a tough time without any competant engineers. Essentially arguing that humans have a biological engineering caste. Which sounds like total rubbish.

Finding compelling evidence for this sociological fact wouldn't be hard. Excuse me if I don't trust your 'aspie-gaydar'.

MRT: Why "black" instead of "african-american?" Enormous clunky words are annoying to have to say/type over and over again. Plus we're not some kind of diseased morlock, so screw "afflicted." The childishness of the name is a matter of individual perceptions.

The rest of you: Okay, suppose we drop the engineering argument. There IS no hard evidence; AS was an obscure bit of trivia for shrinks until 1994 or so, so we have no way of proving the pretty damned obvious, such as the fact that Einstein was either one of us or bore a whooole lot of the characteristics. I wasn't claiming that MOST engineers and scientists are AS (though there are a lot of them, and engineering talent is always in short supply), just that the really brilliant ones tend to be. Our different thought patterns (and possibly brain structure) typically favor that kind of work. I suppose "absence of competent engineers" was a bit extreme though. I was a wee bit worked up.

Still, there are undeniable advantages, as well as disadvantages, to having AS. We tend to have encyclopedic knowledge of certain subjects, which vary depending on the individual. We have a powerful visual imagination, which often entails an excellent memory as well (long story). Provided nobody pushes our buttons, we can look at almost any situation calmly and dispassionately. That last one can be very troublesome socially, even though it's handy in a pinch.

aspies sounds like some kind of rule in a handball game. or some gay fairy that "dont even have a dog". all i know is its in the same league as furries, blankies, and commies.

if you werent trying to make it sound all cute and childish you would have gone with aspers or asps. "elok and odin have the asps" sounds better than "elok and odin have aspies". thats one S short of ass-pies
