The map I saw showed it in the Gulf and heading east....which come to think of it, doesn't make a lotta sense because hurricanes tend to move west.

Eastern Pacific hurricane season starts earlier than ours does. And Winston, if you don't like our hurricane threads, don't read them. I have fun, and so do lots of others folks, or I would be the only one posting them and posting in them.

One thing you might want to consider is that I've lived in Florida for five years, but it's only been the last two in which I've been doing hurricane threads. Why? Cuz in the last two years my state has been hit with three tropicals storms, nine hurricanes, five of them major storms. That was a very unusual 18 month period, dispite Florida's (undeserved) reputation as hurricane central. The weather's been really freaking unusual.

Nope, never. Though you do get some nasty storms, have earthquakes, volcanoes, and one monster of a tsunami generating fault of the coast.

Theoretically, a monster Cat 5 headnig at massive speed might be able to hit southern California, but it would cross of lot of cold water and lost a lot of energy before hitting land, probably and would be a very minimal storm by the time it arrived.

The real danger to SoCal from hurricanes is when the remnents pass over, they dump torrential amounts of rain, leading to massive flooding, land slides, and a huge increase in the mouse population (leading to outbreaks of plague and hanta virus).

I really don't see the need for a new thread every time a plastic cup is blown off a table somewhere in the U.S. Nor for another announcing the situation has now been upgraded to a 20% chance that it will happen again in that very same county over the weekend.
