  • how did "we were soldiers" ever get made?

within the first 10 minutes theres so much that is pulled from today and put into the past. like white people who didnt know what "whites only" meant. or "i dont want to make orphans". people in 1964 didnt think like this or were ijgnorant of their own society!

    gibson better die!

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

just the whole thing with the wives and the white woman being oblivious to racism...

unless she was magically transported back there from the far future theres no possible way she was unaware or would protest the way she did.

The movie was disapppointing, especially considering the great cast etc. But the book rocks.

I was surprised though that the Vietnamese weren't painted as quasi-Nazis.

Thankfully Harold Moore (the guy Gibson plays in the film) and Joseph Galloway (co-author of the book with Moore) wouldn't allow it. They actually met the NVA commander and interviewed him, but he wasn't much use as a source, preferring to repeat propoganda rather than share much information.

                      Yeah the book was good.

MRT, I saw the movie some time ago, so I do not recall what you are talking about WRT to the "wives" issue. The movie was a Vietnam war movie that is based on a real battle, the first between the North Vietnamese and the US Army.

The movie and the book have different endings, as the book is tells what really happened and the movie has a "Hollywood" ending.

Yeah now that I remember, that was a shining aspect of this movie, it painted the North Vietnamese in a respectful light, showing the bravery of the soldiers and the intelligence and fortitude of the generals.

"Band of Brothers" is a pretty hard-hitting mini-series.
