That statement doesn't really make Islam seem much better...

So what if a religion bans wearing some clothing? Orthodox members of any of thye monotheistic religions limit what people can wear. Walk around an orthodox jewish neighborhood. I would not condemn them for having rules about what men and women can wear in regards to modesty.
        Why would I judge Islam?

What is wrong is shooting people over it.

And condones killing people who violate the ban?

The cleric's objection was "they weren't showing enough to kill them."

Gepap is correct. Jews, Christians, and Muslims are all conservative in this respect. As far as I know sex is removed from my head when watching female tennis. That's why I mostly don't watch it anyway, because they're usually way more boring than the guys. Same with all the other sports, though running and the like is equally boring regardless of gender in my case. Maybe it's a matter of context. Sportswomen may wear "revealing" (or whatever) clothing, but because it's sport no one actually cares.
"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."--General Sir Charles James Napier

The BIble condones stonning people for mouthing off to their parents.

The question is one of interpretation, not source material.

Didnt Jesus and company pretty much said that dietary laws and punishments from the leviticus (the law) no longer had to be followed?

Maybe that is why...... imagine there is a rolls eyes emoticon here

Funny how christians are always accused for something their "leader" "abrogated".

Maybe it makes sense in the USA since you have so many judeophile protestant setcs there.

Because Christianity makes a distinction between temporal and divine power that Islam does not make. That and the fact that pre-Christian ideas from the Classical world made a much greater impact in Europe than accross the Med.

                      Duh.

The prevailing interpretation in the Muslim world is, "it's okay to stone people for wearing the wrong clothes." The cleric you cited just was more permissive re: what clothes are acceptable than others.
