Then again, what value do just numbers without adjustment for era factors hold? Did some shmoe who hit .320 in the greatest offensive era in baseball (the 1930s, not the 1990s, fyi) become a better player than Yaztremski when he lead the league in 1968 with a .301 BA?

Bonds is an *******. That doesn't distinguish him from many other great baseball players, but just b/c of that doesn't mean I have to like him. Thus, I simply ignore him. I feel nothing whatsoever when Barry hits a home run. Or grounds out. Or acts like a petulant child in front of the media. :shrug:

Why would he be loathed for a quote like that? People are trying to find ways to slam Bonds for dumb things. Its an amusing statement (if the kid doesn't like him, why hang onto it). But I have to call for a cite on this one. Bonds has said in the past that he'd want the guys who caught the balls to sell them and make a ton of money. But perhaps he's just being silly and saying, fine, you don't have to like me, but then why are you holding onto the ball,

yeah, I can see Bonds thinking like that!
I would guess that Bonds wouldn't pay money for the ball, and the guy who caught it should get something for being the lucky one to catch it.
I remember reading where Bonds wouldn't even sign the 713 ball, but made the guy who caught it sign a release for the ESPN/Bonds infomercial.Comment

Well, seeing as how Bonds doesn't want the ball back (he'd rather the guys who caught them sell them), I can understand why he wouldn't sign it. He KNOWS that ball is going on the block.
