    The hell we didn't! Do you know what a B-52 does? We did't annihilate North Vietnam's cities, ala Germany and Japan, but we bombed so much of Vietnam, that a total area the size of Massachussets in Vietnam is still basically desert.

    We had the gloves off in both Korea and Vietnam. The only part of North Vietnam we didn't bomb was a ten-mile strip along the Chinese border, in order that we not accidentally bomb China and start a world war. We didn't put troops on the ground in North Vietnam for the same reason, because we believed, correctly as it turns out, that China would have intervened.

    Two million Vietnamese died in the Vientamese-American War. If you think that's us holding back, what do you think we should have done, committ genocide?

    Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

They have to bear the sacrifice for battles they don't think the US should fight.

        Warriors (Ves is a prime example) just simply don't get the time and effort operations like this will take. They think things can be taken care of if more and more force is used. They don't seem to understand the problems that pissing off a bunch of people can bring. They say "bring it on" without thinking of the consequences, while the families of the dead have to live with those consequences every day.
        Warriors like Ves?

        I was against us going into Afghanistan or Iraq.... I maintain Iraq is still a huge mistake, i'm unsure about Afghanistan now though.

        We could of, and we would of "won". Point being it was not American inability, but American restraint.

            Let me clarify.

            We did not bomb major cities in the same way we bombed major cities in WW2.

              [q=Ves]Warriors like Ves?[/q]

              [q=Ves]We didn't carpet bomb vietnam.

              EVERY war used as an example, would of been easily won by the first world power if they had shown a willingness to "take off the gloves" as was done in WW2(except maybe france in Vietnam-they didn't have the ordinane).[/q]

              Yes, WARRIORS LIKE VES. Did you even read the article?

              May a quote a relevant part of it?

              [q=article]The Warrior, unable to see things through the eyes of the enemy, or of the local population, whom he quickly comes to hate, wants to blow hell out of things.[/q]

                The changes to the Geneva Conventions since WWII are slowly making war itself too difficult to prosecute.

                    Did I express an apathy to the suffering of others, or the desire to blow the hell out of their populace? No.

                    In fact we did not "win" because we did NOT have "warriors" the way he described calling the shots, with complete and utter disregard for the populace(only partial disregard heh). If that was the case, we would of leveled their capital.

                      Why not? If we make war more horrible instead of less then perhaps everyone will do whatever it takes to avoid it.
