IQ tests are normalised to a population. Children's IQ tests are normalised to groups of similarly aged children (range of 1 year?)

At age 16 everybody is grouped into the "adult" category and this is the population all adult IQ scores are measured against

To generate IQ scores, your raw test score is compared against the population you form a part of. These final IQ scores are assigned in such a way that they are distributed in the population normally, generally with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of either 15 or 16.

If an eleven year old scores above 84.1% of the population of 11 year olds he is given the same score as an adult who scores above 84.1% of the population of adults (115 in an IQ test with mean 100 and std deviation 15)

Personally, I'm "surprised" that I got a 93 (i.e, nearly normal intelligence), when purposefully giving a wrong answer to every question. I admit I can have accidentaly given the right answer once or twice, but still, my answers should be more than dweebish, and the final score should reflect that.

Well, actually it shouldn't: as Kuci pointed out, they're selling something. So it's not surprising they give huge scores so generously.

Your experiment in getting things wrong serves as evidence that the scores could be inflated. Surely someone with a slightly below average intelligence would get a few right beyond the 20% from random guessing.

They penalize you for looking at yellow. Often all the boxes have the same yellow pattern. It's better to look at multiple colors, even if you can't cover the entire area in time.

But what about mental ages? Like when someone has a mental age of 9. Is it that, had he taken a 9 year old's IQ test, he would have gotten a 100? How do they determine a mental age of 9 from an adult IQ test?
