  • The senate compromise plan over 20 years.

60M-200M foreign nationals admitted to the US in the next 20 years.

Since our founding in 1973, The Heritage Foundation has been working to advance the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

    100M-200M according to this one.

Both of these assume an immediate end to illegal immigration, that workers continue to only bring in 1.2 dependents each, and so on.

What a stroke of genius!! If you assume the problem will not exist, it become immensely easier to solve.

Doubtful. The entire population of Mexico is only 100 million.

This all came from a questionable "report" by the hard right wing group the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundatuon is completely controlled by right wing Republicans and so its job is to put out crap which supports their policies while ignoring everything which doesn't. The Heritage Foundation made all sorts of wildly exagerated claims about WMDs in Iraq, continues to claim that tax cuts always pay for themselves, and now they're taking the far right's stance that some how 200 million Mexicans will be in the US with in 20 years. There aren't even 200 million people in Mexico and Central America (which are the areas where 80%-90% of the illegal immigrants come from).

As usual the Heritage Foundation is completely bogus and has no basis in reality. It took us 22 years to get to 10-12 million yet magically we're going to start seeing 200 million in the same time frame? Bull****. This is just more lies and exagerations from a group which has a long history of lying and exagerating things for political reasons.

            Yep, this is totally absurd.

I believe the lower number -- 60 million. On the other hand, that number would come from the Southern border anyway, whether it's legal or not. When you start talking about the the Phillipines or wherever, that's when the numbers are impacted by status.

We have pretty massive waiting lists for legal immigration, so anything that impacts those lists could have an outsized impact on the number of foreign nationals in the US.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Both of you should actually read what was posted. This concerns legal immigration, and the assumption of a complete stop of all illegal immigration.
