You have to use anti-magnetics. The real hard part is that anti- particles move backward in time. That means they exist before you make them.

Containing normal particles is just as hard as containing anti-particles, so long as you play by the rule that your normal particles can't touch anything either.

Static electromagnetic traps cannot work inside an empty box. There's an elegant proof of that.

In order to corral particles effectively in a region free from electromagnetic sources you require an RF trap, which holds charged particles (or particles with a magnetic moment, such as neutral hydrogen or anti-hydrogen) using alternating fields. This is exceedingly difficult, and not all that effective.

Regarding antimatter, what is the state of the art in containment vessels? Are these containment vessels massive by necessity? How fast does the antimatter burn off? Any prospect of big advances in antimatter production (or collection) or containment technology? I note that some science fiction contemplates a solar sail that would collect antimatter from the sun.

It would be great to see antimatter drives for earth to orbit transportation sometime in the future.
