I agree with Spiffor on this. You're a good writer. Whether you want to do it in this form or that is up to you. Depends on what you want to achieve.

But you better start writing about something interesting like your wet dreams with monkeys with pajamas or something like that. Or amputee cows with piercings..

I have a problem with talking about myself online. Can't explain it, I'm open in real life, but it just doesn't make sense to talk about myself on the internet. So there won't be any spicy personal details on my site, only information I find interesting for this reason or that.

But you know, blogs are in millions soon. You need to establish your blog by letting them know who you are so they can read those stories you pick up with more interest.

As in, I'd read a blog of a serial killer, just to see what kind of cooking tips and what kind of book reviews he gives.

You are entirely correct. Making things more personal makes the readers more engaged and blog more attractive. I've considered the option and discarded it.

I pay for hosting, and the software is WordPress. It's free. Other solutions I know of are TextPattern and Moveable Type.

But you don't need to download any of them if you don't have a hosting account. You can instead start your blog on one of the free providers who give both hosting+blogging software bundled. For example: http://www.blogger.com/start
There are probably plenty of others, but I haven't used a single one so I don't really know what to recommend you.
