Can somebody explain why people are crazy for Roth IRAs?
“In a democracy, I realize you don’t need to talk to the top leader to know how the country feels. When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.” - Jimmy Carter
Everyone would lik to think they will get rich. For people with very large retirement account, the Roth typically does better. Thus, people think Roth is better for them because they fantasize themselves having a big retirement account in the future.
Also, I have no confidence that a future government won't decide to tax Roths when it is short of money.
I have a very small Roth IRA. I funded it when I was eligible and only did it because I was maxing out my 401K at the time and did not qualify for a regular IRA. Since that time, I no longer qualify for a regular IRA or a Roth IRA.
“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
From what I remember from my tax course last year Roths are better for the higher income groups as pchang says. It has to do with tax brackets I think. We didn't study it too much though. I just remember my professor saying something about it.
I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

READ your paper work!! It can save you (and my agency ) a lot of headaches.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
