By 1964, there were already 50 countries affiliated with the FIH, as well as three continental associations - Africa, Pan America and Asia - and in 1974, there were 71 members. Today, the International Hockey Federation consists of five Continental associations - Europe and Oceania have since joined - and 118 member associations.

Going into the 2003 General Congress in Marbella, Spain, the IIHF had 63 member national federations with Macedonia and Liechtenstein being the latest ones to become members, in 2001.
Number of countries in international competition dne widely played.

Overall participation in hockey is probably larger than field hockey.

It's definitely the Ted Striker championship, he'd wet himself with excitement here .

I only have one complaint... Finns have taken over Riga! I mean, you can't go anywhere without bumping into representatives of the most evil country on Earth! I need reinforcements of other Apolyton moderators here .

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm still trying to live down the embarrasment of letting in a goal against the 'Hockey Nation' in our last match-up.

Solver, sorry about that. I know there's TONS of drunken *******s there now. Finns are like that when they get out of this country. You know, like it was their home and like they can do what they do in here.

The Latvian police already has some stats out there, and Finns are the most troublesome people there.

So yeah, you enjoy my life for a while

Remember, don't start talking with a drunk finn who is aggressive, just walk away, they'll get tired and choose another one.

Just read something interesting in the paper - Team Canada's captain, Brendan Shanahan, played his first NHL game when teammate Sidney Crosby was two months old.

Yeah, though you have to admit, in part, that us having more problems with Finns is partially because there simply are way more Finns than other fans. I actually was surprised, on the opening day in the center of the city, near the hotels and all, a ton of Latvian fans, big groups of Finn fans, and some other fans mixed in among them... Finns certainly arrived in promiment numbers.

Oh, our fans have taken to chanting "Suomi, Suomi!" when passing Finn fans . In Latvian, Finns are actually called somi.

Yeah, the fans have no problems with each other, the Finns who have problems are drunk and acting like idiots. And yeah, Latvia is so close so they have arrived. More to come.

BUt they get along just fine, the fans. If it was football, Riga would be tored up. Not by Finns though but by others!

There's no chance of us holding any football championship of significance within the next 25 years, fortuntely .

                          Hello-o..?

I just saw that Denmark has retained our spot in the A group, by tieing Slovenia 3-3, defeating Italy by 5-0 and Kazakhstan by 3-2 earlier today.

So we get to generally have our butts kicked again next year.

We lost all 3 of our preliminary matches, against Canada, USA and Norway. We then proceeded to the "relegation group" and got the results mentioned above.

Really, it's a good thing you Aussies have Hockey, when you appear to need a Dane - of all people - to explain the workings of Ice Hockey tournaments.
