Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

      Conservatives: "Bush upstages Colbert!"

      Liberals: "Colbert upstages Bush!"

Transcript is great. Downloaded the video,
I can see why the Bushes were ticked.

That's what they get for giving Colbert the podium.

I totally fail to understand why politicians continue to do interviews with people like Colbert and Stewart. Don't they understand that they're going to be ridiculed hilariously?

You'd think. But some of them definitely don't get it.

IL gov. Blagojevich was totally clueless on what he was getting into. Funniest part? The next day, when his staff tried to spin it.

Have you ever SEEN a White House Correspondents' Association Dinner before?! Don Imus most definately did not fellate Clinton when he was the guest.
And I heard pundits downplay his performance too, Chris Matthews said Colbert bombed. I havent seen it yet but DB posted some of the jokes and it looks funny.

The thing is, Colbert wasn't trying to be funny. He knew full well what he was doing. The only suprise here would have been if the press corp HAD laughed more, instead of just sitting there and taking it. He took them to task in perhaps the most embarrassing way for them and every damned one of them knew it.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

                    Transcript here:

Daily Kos is a progressive news site that fights for democracy by giving our audience information and resources to win elections and impact government. Our coverage is assiduously factual, ethical, and unapologetically liberal. We amplify what we think is important, with the proper context—not just what is happening, but how it's happening and why people should care. We give you news you can do something about.

It's hilarious. Have to wait until I get home from work to watch the video.

Now, I know there are some polls out there saying this man has a 32% approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in "reality." And reality has a well-known liberal bias.

It was even better than when teh Jon Stewart pwned Tucker Carlson.

Like nearly everything else Colbert does, it was brilliant. This wasn't his most subtle performance by any means, but the White House Press Corps and Dear Leader make a far less comfortable audience than a Comedy Central studio audience.

Bridge's Bush impersonation was the lamest, tamest, blandest [contemporary] SNL-type "humor."

If you have to go back ~8 years to find a counter-example, that's not exactly a strong argument...

                          Probably my favorite line:

But, listen, let's review the rules. Here's how it works: the president makes decisions. He's the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put 'em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!

Yeah, that's priceless. By coincidence, I watched All the President's Men last night with my daughter, and then had to explain why journalism wasn't like that anymore.

But you have to define "flop." Flop = Not Getting Laughs only if getting laughs was his goal to begin with. If instead his goal was to Make Powerful People Uncomfortable By Speaking the Truth, he's probably given the most successful performance in the history of the dinner.
