    The Analyze movies

DeNiro just looked foolish and goofy. He was better in Fockers, but he played a straight man in that.

          Goodfellas.

I'm afraid I get DeNiro and Pacino mixed up for some reason.

Heh, I mix them up sometimes too, even though they are both distinctive actors.

Anyway, he's always good. Period. Just like Pacino.

I did a compare and contrast on the two films one night, and perhaps it's a slightly more jaded audience, but any two-bit hood that threatens a real lawyer with real connections will be either (a) ridden out of town, or (b), re-arrested. Though, admittedly, it's a problem more with the story than it is with the acting... I just thought that De Niro brought it off better, that he was more imposing, more likely to make the other man feel impotent.

Anyway, his best acting job was as Vito Corleone, in The Godfather, pt II.

His best role was Jake LaMotta, in Scarface.

Taxi Driver was an awesome movie, Sloww. Look at it this way: he tried to turn the whore into a Madonna, and the Madonna into a whore. What a ****ed up Catholic sensibility the audience is being presented with, complete with a mad messiah bent towards redemption of a prostitute. He even rejects his canonization in the end by declining Betsy's invitation for a date.

There's a lot of working out of personal demons in that movie, both by Scorcese and scriptwriter Paul Schrader. De Niro's ability to capture both themes and turn them into a unified, complete character is one of the great acting jobs of our lives.

Anyway, I change my mind: Taxi Driver for both.
