$320 in dividends from my XOM stock this quarter ($1,280/yr, $.32/share)
$180 in dividends from my ConocoPhillips stock this quarter ($720/yr, $.36/share)
$131 in dividends from the Ford stock ($524/yr, $.10/share) (not necessarily a gas company of course, but their customers help my XOM stock. It's a win-win all around. )
There is also my investments in Big Tobacco (Altria), Big Finance (Bank of America, BB&T), and Big Pharma (BMS, Merck).

You guys do know that historical cost of the refiners inventory is less than the fair market value, right?
Where are you leading with this? The "cost" of anything may be different than its fair market value. If price is appreciating for a given item/product/inventory, its unsuprising that its FMV will exceed its "cost".
My house also has an FMV way above its cost. My car has an FMV way under its cost (since it is depreciating). SO ??

I wanted to make that point, but thought it so blindingly obvious that I feared I was missing something in Kid's statement.

Good for you !! Due to strict conflict of interest rules, I find myself unable to directly own stock in any of the majors so I am playing at the fringes with a number of small oilsands players

Well apparently you can improve your gas mileage by properly inflating your tires.
I didn't hear what Arnold said but better mileage might lessen demand somewhat

I'm sure his fleet of Hummers is doing a great job contributing to that lessening of demand.
