Brundlefly, there is just so much to do here so I'm going to need to know a bit more about the types of things you enjoy and what interests you. A few suggestions off the top of my head:

-The Zoo is widely considered the best in the world and has the largest exhibit of rare and endangered species in the world plus it's set in Balboa Park which is one of the nicest central parks in the country. If you really like animals then you can visit the Wild Animal Park located in North County which is unque because the animals run free about the grounds and people are confined to tour buses making it feel kind of like a safari.

-Sea World will help you learn about sea life plus it's fun to watch the killer whales do tricks.

-Balboa Park has a nice bucolic feel plus it happens to have the largest collection of museums west of the Mississippi so you're bound to find something you like. The architecture is very beautiful and is historically notiable since it was all built for the 1915 Pan-American Expo.

-The Gaslamp Quarter is a 16-block national historic district that offers visitors a variety of restaurants and shops, as well as an eyeful of Victorian architecture. Try sitting in one of the sidewalk cafes while you smoke a hookah and watch the people go by or hit up one of the many night clubs located in this area.

-Old Town State Park houses many of the old Spanish and Mexican era buildings and has some of the best Mexican food in town.

-Cabrillo National Monument is where the first European set foot in California plus it offers a great view of the city, the ocean, and the bay. There's also tide pools and interesting things to look at like the old WW2 pill box's and artillery emplacements (designed to protect the harbor from Japanese attack) and the old Fort Rosecrans National Cemetary (kind of poetic to get photos of the rows of headstones with the Pacific in the background).

-The Maritime museum is down on India street where you can see a number of old wooden sailing ships plus they now have the WW2 Aircraft Carrier the USS Midway on display.

-Catch a baseball game at the new stadium Petco Park located downtown in the east village.

-Seaport Village is also located downtown and it has a lot of shops and restaurants along with docks which still house working fishing boats. It has a nice of the bay plus you have an excellent view of the Navy's warships which dock directly across from Seaport Village.

-Belmont Park is a beach front 1920's era shopping and amusement center whose show piece is "The Big Dipper" an all wooden roller coaster. It has a kind of Coney Island feel so ride the roller coaster, sit on the beach, drink a beer, and watch the girls go by.

-Torrey Pines State Park is a nice stretch of wild land right along the coast. Nearby is the Del Mar fair grounds where you can see classic horse races.

-Little Italy is the old Italian immigrant part of town which still has the best Italian food and some of the best delis in town.

-Go to the beach. We've got dozens so you'll likely find one to suit your tastes.

-You could also go across the border to TJ where you can eat street talks, bargin for slightly mingy tourist goods, and get you picture taken with a donkey painted to look like a zebra.

There is a whole lot more so why don't you let me know what sort of things you're interested in and we can narrow it down.

I've been to the Hooters in San Diego. Not bad. I never bother to go in Las Vegas. It seems pointless. As we already have hooters everywhere.

Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

I went to San Diego in March; it's great. They've pretty much mentioned all the stuff I did, so I don't have much more to add, other than that you can't really go wrong there. Although we didn't spend too much time along the beaches, since the water was closed due to that waste spill...

The main problem comes from Mexico which continues to dump raw sewage into the ocean though occasionally San Diego's waste water system malfunctions and a spill occurs. You can bet the state fines the hell out of us if we have an accident but the Mexicans dump with impunity.
