Yes, some unAmerican immigrants (except for the Americans) decided to stage a protest for the 8-hour day and got killed. Three days later they held a protest to protest the killings. Some one set us up the bomb, and some cops got killed, and they opened fire on the protest. No one knows how many workers were killed. Then the leaders, who had left hours before, were arrested and hung for conspiracy to commit murder.

There is, at long last, a monument for the event at Maymarket Square in Chicago.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

May Day is a holiday dedicated to the workers. It pays homage to the many workers who fought and died in the past for us to enjoy our social rights.
I thought May Day is dedicated to treating the hangover from the night before. And throwing BBQs.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

First of May, vappu, is certainly a booze festival. For some reason, vappu is associated heavily with not only the workers but also with university students, so the booze part comes naturally. Also, whereas during juhannus the boozing happens in the privacy of your home or your summer cottage, during vappu it's a wholesale drunken bonanza in any large city.

People wear their silly white student caps, otherwise, not much.

I think the typo was intentional.

Anyway, May Day, the REAL Labor Day.

More ships are lost on May Day than any other day of the year. People just don't take them seriously.

That's not a good thing. You fellows need something to counterbalance the serious rightwing movement. That would require a left movement of about 40% of the country

We had a pretty good leftist culture until....

LBJ led us into a political disaster with the Vietnam War.

Charles Manson demonstrated the hippies were capable of bloody murder.

...and we grew up, cut our hair, and got jobs, children and mortgages.
