This thread is just plan silly. Those protests have been going on for weeks and just because they continue and hold one on May 1st (likely continuing on after May 1st as well) you think this will introduce communism to the US? This is so seriously lame and obviously less then a footnote in the whole immigration controversy that I have to wonder if you didn't get it from a Fox News. This totally sounds like the type of red herring Fox News would run.

Oerdin: It doesn't really matter what common sense tells you, preception is all that matters. Other large groups see the attention the Latinos are getting and they are watering at the mouth with envy. Soon you will see all sorts of groups trying to wrap themselves up in the issue just to get attention.

I fully expect to see contigents of Gays, PETA supporters, Anti-war, and who knows what else out there. Latinos need to keep the message simple or risk becoming the side show...

For those who aren't familiar with the group, they are rather small and have little support in the US. They are only effective by being part of a coalition, so they try to catch the coattails of pretty much every movement that comes along.

I think the people in the immigrants rights coalition should be careful with whom they associate. If they associate with groups sympathetic to communism, they rightly will be painted with the same brush that Americans reserve for communists. In this respect, the choice of May 1 as a significant day of protest is unfortunate for their cause.
