    • Arts degrees have many uses. Maybe not history actually.

But as someone who goes to one of the top LA schools in the country...even people with low 2.0 GPAs here are able to get into good jobs out of college.

I think the problem is that most arts programs in schools are just horrible.

      • I think the contempt shown towards science from some people here is reminiscent of the contempt sometimes shown to working people from those 'higher up' the pecking order.

In the same way that there would be no cars, houses & roads without workers, there would be no cars, medicine, computers, hi-fi's or fridges without scientists, engineers and techies.

I don't dismiss the arts or philosphy, by the way - both science and 'humanities' are essential parts of human progress. There can be mutual respect.

                Not really.

                          • Wow. SEVEN pages of discussion over Liberal Arts majors.

Sheesh. Business Admin is the major of those who couldn't come up with a Business major to settle on so they just take the basics.

Liberal Arts is the major for those who couldn't settle on a general area like Business or Engineering. Its basically a "I went to college for four years and showed up to class" degree.

EDIT: Okay so maybe 5-7 years. Showing up to class takes longer for some liberals.

                            • I don't get it. What about people who don't want to "settle" on Business or Engineering? Isn't it awfully presumptuous to think that everybody wants to major in such fields?

                              • Those were just the first two majors that popped into my head.

First two useful majors anyway. There are many others, like Education, Biology, etc.

But sure, you're correct that if you don't want to major in anything, Liberal Arts is the way to go!
