      Gaaaah.

I really want to go ahead with them having the paper copy on hand while they actually work and record on the computer for now.

I never said they were forcing prices higher. I'm sure they are happy that the prices are high, and are perfectly fine with selling it at market value. I was only suggesting that they have a lot of room to cut prices *if they HAD to*.
KAAK!!!! STOP MAKING ASSERTIONS THAT MORE EDUCATED AND EXPERIENCED PEOPLE ARE TELLING YOU ARE EITHER IRRELEVANT OR FALSE!!!!!:

IRRELEVANT! WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THIS WORLD, NOT THE ONE IN YOUR HEAD. AMERICAN COMPANIES HAVE NO MORE CONTROL OVER THE PRICE OF GASOLINE IN THE US THAN I DO OVER THE PRICE OF APOLYTON PLUS SUBSCRIPTIONS.

I never said they were forcing prices higher.

FALSE!!!! FROM YOUR VERY OWN OP:

I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75,

If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.

HOW ARE THEY ABLE TO LOWER PRICES AS DESIRED IN THE OP, KAAK, IF THEY AREN'T FORCING THE PRICE HIGHER AS YOU NOW CLAIM? WTFRICKETY****?

And US companies are relatively minor players. If company X is the largest oil company in Liechtenstein it doesn't mean ****.

Prove it using financial analysis with data pulled from Exxon's 10-k. Not arguments pulled from your ass, but data. Facts. Statistics. Numbers.

              • I still think Kaak doesn't understand the difference between a marginal cost and an average cost.

No, Kaak. They were able to buy it for that, produce it, and then sell the distillants at marginally higher prices.

                  Aren't you even listening?

                  Edit: Nice X-Post.

                  • Kaak, there is only one price for oil at any given location at any given time.

To ensure that demand and supply meet, the market fluctuates until it reaches a price at which the demand and supply balance. Even if 90% of the demand can be met by oil drilled at 15$ a barrel, the market will increase the price until that figure is one hundred percent. This is accomplished by a decrease in demand at higher prices, as well as an increase in supply (people buy less gas as it costs more, and the oil company is willing to pay more to extract if a higher price makes this marginal oil profitable). Setting the price artificially lower than this equilibrium price will result in a SHORTAGE because the oil company will drill less oil and demand will be higher.
