"Scripture also says 'Render unto Caesar what Caesar demands.' And right now, Caesar demands a building permit," County Commission Chairman Mike Whitehead said.

actually I hear fundies offering your verson quite often, more often than advising Christians to violate laws. But you didn't quote Jesus, you cited someone else's interpretation. Did Jesus tell his followers to obey the laws regardless of what that entails? No. Did Jesus obey the laws? No. Did Jesus tell his followers to violate or ignore laws? Of course. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone is an indictment of all "vice" laws at the very least if not government itself. Hell, Jesus was the Messiah - a title outlawed by Caesar.
Most of the stuff you've mentioned (like the name Messiah, or firstborn sons) was God's. Money and building permits are Caesar's.

It's ironic really, their stupid religious belief in not having to fill out building permits has closed the museum that illustrates just how stupid their religion is

Exactly. This is the very thing that fits into what is "Caesar's". As long as Caesar doesn't violate, or encroach, on God's law, then you must render unto him what is his.

I suspect they are worried that Ceaser won't issue a building permit because the place isn't up to Ceaser's code.
