Your Worst Poker Loss

I've never played for more than a few quids, but I was just in a tourney (the prize was only entry into a good tourney, so I didn't care much), and came 821 out of about 950. Yeah, I'm good. Went all-in on a pair of 8's. Fear me

tilted bad and lost little over $250 in less than an hour. It was all winning money though. But still.

The biggest pot I ever lost was worth over $1000 at a home game. Here's how it went down:

We are playing $1-$2 no limit. There are 6 players left in the game. I have around $330 in front of me, up from the $100 with which I bought in. I have around the same amount of chips as the chip leader. The game is loose, with lots of preflop action.

I get dealt AA under the gun. I immediately raise to $15. The next player folds, but the next player raises to $50. The next two people fold, and the Big Blind player raises all in, for approximately $300. I immediately call, as does the person to my left who raised me. There is about $950-$1000 in the pot, and all the cards are flipped up.

I have AA, player to my left has AK(s), and the Big Blind player who went all in has 33. For those of you who don't know, having to face 2 other hands all in, this situation is about as good as you can ever hope for with AA. You are virtually invulnerable to AK, and are only facing two outs against the guy with 33. The only real ways to get beat are by a 3 coming, KK coming, or 3 flush or straight cards coming.

That's exactly what happened. The flop came QJT offsuite, flopping AK the nut straight. I still had an out to split the pot if a K came on the turn or river, and an out to win with a full house if I caught two perfect runners.

The board paired the J or the T (I can't remember which) on the turn, and I was feeling a LITTLE better, but the river was a rag, and I'm left sitting there wondering how I lost the biggest pot of my life in which I was an overwhelming preflop favorite.

All I can say is that I will take AA in that situation every day for the rest of my life with any amount of money, and will come out a consistent winner. But that's poker for ya

DF, oh that sucks.. I always hate it when someone goes all-in, I have the nuts and there's more folks after me jumping into it. Why? Well, the AAs aren't that strong anymore when you have like 3 or 4-way action with suited connectors and all that stuff, it's just crying to be a bad beat. BUT... with nuts.. you gotta play or go home.

YOu said it was a loose game, I doubt he thought he could drive you two out of the pot with 33. It was raised and re-raised, and after that you go all-in with 33? Seems weird play to me. Maybe he was tired and wanted to get out?

Anyway the AK play was risky too. Considering it was raised, and you raised then with big slick and then it was all-in and your turn again. I might even flop at that situation, depending what the pot is and hwo committed I want to be. Most likely 2-way action anyway if you step out, so would you go into a threesome with AK in your hand and all-in? Depends, but risky play.

Honestly I don't know what he was thinking. Maybe he thought I was week, and put the other person on AK, and wanted to race 50-50 to double up, thinking I would fold. Dumb play, though, because an under the gun raise on my part almost HAD to signal QQ or better.

No, he made a horrible call, probably as bad as the 33 all in. His reraise to $50 was fine, because with AK suited you have to find out where you are. Once he got raised all in, he should have been worried, but once I called immediately without even thinking about it, he should have mucked his hand so fast no one would have known he ever had a hand. He was getting only 2-1 pot odds, in a situation where he only had $50 in the pot, had to give me credit for a HUGE hand (at that point, either Kings or Aces), and had to give the other player credit for a big hand, too - he had to figure he was third best.

Horrible, awful call, that paid off for him.

I guess I haven't played enough or at games that have enough money involved yet - even though I've had my fair share of cracked aces and runner-runner flushes, I can't think of a bad beat that would have been the worst. (Trust me, whatever will be my worst poker loss will definitely be a bad beat.)

I didn't take this thread to be about individual bad beats. Rather, about losing stretches.
