  • Real life and Civilization games - how close?

Please check this interesting article by a guy called Claus Jacobsen - Do nations operate like AI?

Consider answering the questions he asks:
    1) Is it possible to run a successful media war against Iran?
    2) Do international players act like AI, and to what extend?
    3) What can you learn from the elaborate game plays of strategy games, if anything?
Indeed... how should the nations of the world be "played"?

What is this? A mix of political realism and game theory?

Well, I don't know about the media war on Iran. Sounds silly to me.

I think diplomacy is slightly better implemented in the real world than in Civ. That means there are more constraints on the behaviour of states IRL.

So, to conclude, I'd say that AIs and international players may have the same aims (power and money), but teh rules of the game are different.

Real life is just like a video game, with poor AI.

Not really much; aside from Perry Rhodan I don´t know a human leader who is immortal

I also don´t know of modern ships which take years to cross an ocean

Civilization games are as close to reality as the Simpsons are to reality of family life.

As long as you could reload multiple times, that would be fine.

I gave RL a graphic upgrade when I got LASIK done two years ago. It was well worth it.
