  • Batch of Files conversion

    Here's the thing...

I frequently take screenshots of my games or whatever which often produce bitmap or png files.

I like to convert those into jpeg files but it's a pain to convert them one by one into jpeg. Is there a way to mass-convert a batch of files into jpeg?

Any shortcut or a software that does this?

    Thanks

IIRC you can so with photoshop.

Do you just need to alter the extension, or is there a real conversion needed?

I believe just change the extension will suffice.

How so with Photoshop? that's a default software right?

I was thinking of writing something so you could do it but why reinvent the wheel.

        google: "batch file"+conversion

Plenty of options to be found.

*chuckle* exactly - I wouldn't expect you to type up everything if you know of where I can find the information.

          Thanks

No. You need to actually convert the format.

I've done this commercially, on batches tens of thousands of bitmap documents from within databases using 2jpeg from fcoder.

If you want full control of compression ratios, bit depths and handling of multiple input file types, this pro product is pretty nifty.

The usefulness of the convert tool from ImageMagick is mighty.

Probably could have mentioned that IrfanView is free for private use.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure it does everything the other tools mentioned do as well.

Cort - thanks for your recommendation. However I'd have to pay for it and the demo adds a watermark to pictures which isn't something I want.

IrfanView worked beautifully. It took me a while to figure it out but it worked great.

                              Many thanks!
