Lucky for them they have all you armchair neo-cons to tell them what to do with it!

You don´t have to take any overt steps.
Just do some covert things, like supplying and training armed resistance forces within the country, or even make assassination attempts on the president himself. AFAIK the USA have lots of experience with these kinds of operation

And to add to the last 3 posts, which were awesome, we keep hearing all this crap about how greedy oil companies are (you know the ones with 30 billion dollars of profit while still screwing consumers with high prices) and now we're supposed to feel sorry for them?

        I don't think so

if someone steals from you, is it wrong to take it back?

                    Where's the theft?

Alberta begged for years for major oil companies to come to the tar sands and develop them. They finally came. Are you saying that if in, say 20 years, we decide to nationalise the oil sands that we would be recovering stolen property?

And this Venezuelan "people", how did they manage to:

                      a) locate the oil
                      b) drill for it
                      c) ship it to buyers

I don't blame the Venezualans for wanting to prevent their oil wealth from disappearing under their noses. They're basically trading what little investor confidence in their country was left for more oil money. Nothing wrong with that.

Oh, and I'd like to see an example of a third world country that's doing well on the back of their oil reserves being drained by private companies. Nigeria? Angola?

I was gonna mention those African countries, they along with many Latin American nations are not getting their fair share and often the environment gets wrecked in the process

And not we're not talking about the "tree hugging" people environmentalists, we're talking about the people that actually live their have things like their water poisioned

No big deal though when $30 billion goes back into Texas, or rich old Europe

He shouldn't have taken the oil fields off the oil companies...

...he should have let them keep mining and tax them to buggery

taxing them would have been a better idea

I am not sure why he didn't do that
