I will say, however, that he was one the most effective house majority leaders in history.
I guess that depends on your definition of "effective". AFAIK DeLay was very good in getting the lower house of Congress to agree with him and do exactly what he wanted it to do (despite all the hostile rhetoric from both sides). Reminds me of Lyndon B. Johnson actually, he was the most effective President US has had in the last 60 years by those standards.

The idea that it was even suggested is obviously as laughable as some people's reading skills.

The question remains however who gets busted first?

While Tom DeLay is a bit corrupt, he doesn't really compare to some of the Dem reps in the districts around him, who he heavily fought to make sure they didn't waste Houston's tax dollars on huge pork projects.

If these bastard doesn't go to jail then there is no justice.
No one should ever go to jail for campaign finance law violations. What a bogus "crime" in a land where freedom is supposed to matter.

But I wont shed a tear for him, they rig the system to favor the 2 parties and nail the rest of us when we violate the laws. But the real scandal is the legalised bribery that gets ignored. Within days of hefty contributions from Abramoff and/or his clients, Minority leader Sen Harry Reid of Nevada and House speaker Denny Hastert sent letters off to Gale Norton at the dept of Interior to block a tribe from starting a casino down in LA. Abramoff and his clients didn't want the competition.

So who replaces him? Bohener? He was caught handing out tobacco lobby checks on the House floor before a vote. The GOP is rotten to the core, they make the Dems look almost...tolerable...
