If I'm not mistaken, if msn can't connect using it's normal port ( whatever that may be) within a certain amount of time, it will switch to port 80(?), or some other port that should be open on most computers.

Did zone alarm give you a warning popup of something you didn't recognize tgat you forbade to access the net?

You could also try reinstalling msn.

yeah... any decent firewall should notify you there's a program attempting to access the net, and ask you wether to allow it or not.

I do have problems with my router every now and then, which prevent me from accesing the net, but rebooting it fixes them...

I can't access MSN with Zone Alarm either. I gave up trying a year ago.

Zone Alarm does notify when a program is trying to access the internet and asks you for permission.

It must need some port configuring then. I'll be damned whenever MSN does tell you what ports it needs, though...

Go to settings in Zone Alarm and check to see if it can be removed from prohibited list, OR add as allowed.

You might want to take a look at the program control settings and make sure that MSN is allowed as a server.

msn is set as allowed in all zones
i tried removing it from the list and trying to connect in order to see if it would change anything, but nothing happened. i allowed msn again

the msn troublsehooters stops at the ports part

perhaps in the pro version of zonealarm?
