  • Woohoo for capitalism!

Well, I got great news today!

I just got a job offer from the sister company I work for. They want me to be Chief of operations (Vice-president) In charge of all production in the plant, all employees, supervise sales and market expansion. I just got the proposition 5 minutes ago. I just left the presidents office!
Now, I want the job, the only problem is...my futur boss. He's so demanding its unbeleivable. But of all 5 people he could choose from, he chose me. I'm flattered. But I'm wondering if it's a good move.
On the up side, my futur boss is leaving the company in 2 years and the person in the position he offered me is supposed to take his place. So, that would be me. So its a 2 year training.
I'm pretty sure I'll take the job and tough it out for 2 year with him on my back...sort of...

Congrats. How big of an operation is it?
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

How many employees in that place and how much is your salary? Sounds great though. Take it.

I would do it for the opportunity even if the boss is tough.

Oh but please be more careful with the company's assets/money than you are with your own . . . no matter how well you know the girlfriend of the funds requester

yeah dude, tough bosses are OK, they teach you a lot about stuff. I mean, unless he's an idiot of course. You'll learn so much in the 2 years, it'll be worth it, I'm sure. You know how it goes.. many leaders are tough on those they like... because they see something special in them and they want to mold them into better professionals.. so it's tough sometimes to be a superstar like you and me.

Are you going to get paid enough to cover the loss you are going to take loaning money to a gambler?

Well, what we make are abrasive products, such as sand paper, gringing wheels, discs and so on. We sell all over the world, but mostly in the U.S. and Canada.
We have plants in Italy, Austria, China ( Because the chineese only buy what is made in China ), Australia (For diamond wheels), France and Greece. All those plants make grinding wheels which we ship in 2 warehouses in North America, one in NY state and one in Quebec for duty purposes. The sand paper and discs is made at the plant where I work.
So I would be in charge of the 2 warehouses in North America, the plant here in Quebec, 11 employees directly, who are themselfs in charge of different departments and employees, sales, product development and market expansion.
So that's the operation in general DanS.
Pekka, I never say how much I make. Sorry.

                      I was just teasing .

Seriously though. I appreciate that giving up 5 or 10K is not huge to you (material but not huge). But in the other thread you asked advice about the loan and from a "loan" perspective the response was unanimous that this was not a smart deal.

Now you talk about "helping others"-- if something is charity its a different assessment

                      Consider

                      1. Lend the bum on the street $100-- obviously a stupid business decision

                      2. Give the bum on the street $100-- its a different assessment since you look at it versus other places you could give the $100 to meet the objectives. It may be that giving it directly to a bum is a bad idea OR it might be that the bum gets a good meal or two and a new blanket which was exactly your intent.

IN any event charity and business have different tests.

Yeah right. They're just choosing the most fiscally-irresponsible guy they can find so they have an excuse to close this plant (and all the others in the Western World) and move all production to China where they can pay little girls 3p an hour to make sand.

And if that's NOT what they're planning, get in there my son and suggest it. THAT is Capitalism

It truly is cruel...they get the girls to break up big rocks into sand using nothing but a teaspoon, and they have to stick each grain of sand on the paper individually
