Safest and most dangerous cities in the US. LA isn't even on the top ten. Detroit and Baltimore seem to vie for the honor of being the most crime ridden hell hole in the country.

NYC having horrible crime is a myth (urban myth? ) nowadays.

Interesting that the safest city (Newton, MA) is in Middlesex County (one of the nation's richest).

No, we got 'em beat... I just checked out the FBI website.

Crime rates are usually crimes per capita or crimes per X number of people.

You gotta love the fact that Toronto, with about 2.5 million people within the city limits had approximately 1/3 the total number of murders as New York had murders per 100,000 people in 2005. And we have the most murders (though not the highest per capita rate) in Canada.

Interesting. The town my parents live in the 15th safest city (Dover Township, NJ), and the town right next to them is the 5th safest (Brick Township, NJ).

And NYC is 4th safest for cities over 500,000 people.

What you need is a Second Amendment. Get some Uzis into the hands of six-year-olds and watch that murder rate climb.
