Y'know, unless the employer can prove they had a really good reason for firing her, the jury is going to believe this woman. If I were defendant, I'd blame the ex-manager, and I would agree to give her the job back and pay her the lost wages. It'd be a lot cheaper that taking this turkey to trial.

Even during probation the employer needs to have a reason to fire you and give advance notice. How far in advance is dependent on the actual contract.

There is also something called "employee at will" which essentially means that both the employer and the employee can terminate the contract on a moments notice for any reason.

There are certain places where the employer has agreed to make it a "closed shop" meaning as part of the labor agreement the employer has agreed to only hire members of the labor union. Those are very old school places and virtually nonexistant these days but they do still exist even if in vanshingly small numbers where I live.
