A friend of a friend of mine is doing that too...also shops fleamarkets. My best friend "flips" stuff he's bought on eBay.

The difference is my profit. What do you think, any money in this idea?

Actually, boann, there's lot of money to be made from online communities. But specialist gaming sites are OUT, and general purpose social networking sites are IN. One sold for 508 million $.

If we can figure out something that hasn't been done about social networking, we're on the money.

There's always new dimensions to social networking. Yes, yes and yes. Always. You know the next one that will hit big will be one of them 'damn, why didn't I think of that?'-things.

I have some ideas but none of them are refined.

              Pekka, I agree completely!

There's tons of stuff yet to be done with social networking. Both totally new things, and improving old ways.

For example, Apolyton's social networking tools are pretty crude. There's the buddy list thing and private messages, and that's it.

Maybe if MarkG hires me as a consultant, we can turn this site into the next myspace.com or something. I'm cheap too

I just came up with an idea about social networking that is not implemented to its full potential yet.

You know speed dating? How about speed dating on the internet? With webcams that is. Could be interesting.

What is speed dating? I've heard of speed dialing though.

speed dating is when you go to a place, where bunch of girls are waiting, then you and other guys go there too, and have like a time limit to talk 1 on 1, then change tables and get a new partner, talk for the time allowed, change... the idea is that you meet a lot of people fast and can take interest this way. It's like bunch of fast dates in a row.

I think if you can create a great website for dating, that happens through cameras, basically more than just writing, then you can be onto something. If it really works that is. I mean, it becomes succesful only if you have loads of people in there, ready to chat. But if that happens, you get more and more people.

And that's when you hit it big.

not that many people have cameras.

and guys will be using the cameras to show women their cocks. So I'm not sure if it will work.

You only mentioned one problem, the low number of cameras. But they are cheap. IF you want to join in, buy a camera.

Dis, why do you want everything set ready for you anyway?

OMG you have to walk or drive to grocery store? AARGH! I'll order online! Yes?

A member at my gym does something similar: He gets old and hard-to-find car parts and resells them on eBay to people rebuilding classics. I forget how much he siad he makes, but I do remember he was happy.

                              Not necessarily.

As far as I can tell, there are two kinds of websites that attract people. One type specialises. The other has everything, including the kitchen sink (possibly literally).

Take for an example, online shops. You may have one that specialises in games. It has all the games you can think of, and ones you don't know. The other one is like an online department store, including a section that sells kitchen sinks.

I won't say gaming sites are out, though one that specialises on Civilization is probably too specialised. Sure, it can draw a crowd of fans, but the base of this is a bit small.

No offence, myspace looks like an online meat market to me...

Ultimately the only real way to make money through websites is to get people buy things or services. Advertising is merely an end to this. A website with lots of people is useless unless a percentage of those people actually buy.

Thus, I can't see myspace as being a good example. Unless some of those people actually buy things such as flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals, etc.
