My 7800GT was on offer, bought it for £150 ex VAT. I've got it overclocked to 550Mhz (core) and 1.18Ghz (mem). Played Need for Speed Most Wanted absolutely flawlessly, Quake4 and F.E.A.R look absolutely amazing .

The 6600GT is more than enough for anyone who's doing anything but playing the latest games.

It's always best to buy when a new generation has been released. The 7900-series was released a few weeks ago, all 7800-series cards have absolutely plummetted in price.

I don't have that new of a motherboard so I can only handle an AGP.........

Just found out I can get a discount from newegg because of a promotion.

Um... any halfway decent card is way more expensive than the game. An Nvidia 6600 GT will cost you at least $100.

To late with the 9600 series, it's foolish to buy of those now (already outdated, you'll be wanting a new card in a weeks time.
Not to mention that it won't run anything, not even Civ4.

I don't need or want the latest and greatest but from what I found so far they seem to run everything pretty well....

They have some 6600's for around a $100.
(Don't get the cheapest one though, save a couple weeks then and get a slightly better one).

I just installed a X1600Pro. Seems decent enough. Cost about 120€, dunno what the price would be in Vesayenland.

Roughly equivalent of 6600gt, but with all the latest thingamajigs.

Games like Oblivion don't cost 50$. They do, in fact, cost 100$-300$, thanks to video cards and such, as is the case with quite some modern games.
